Welfare
The welfare service provided by the Students' Union is here to help you with any problems which may occur during your time at the University of Glamorgan. Whether it is financial, health related, accommodation or it might be you just need a sympathetic ear (we are a confidential service).
There are several Union Officers, including the Welfare Officer, Education Officer and the Womens and Equal Opportunities Officer. These people have responsibility for providing this service and will assist you with whatever problem you may have. The Welfare team are also involved in running a series of pro-active campaigns on a variety of topics including Student Safety, Aids and HIV awareness, safer sex awareness, money matters, cancer awareness, accommodation problems, exam stress and revision tips. We offer short term hardship loans, provide personal alarms and this year, we have got involved with Nightline again and we are always looking for volunteers. So please don't hesitate to come and see us if you need some help. Just ask at reception in the Students' Union and they'll show you where to go. It can be a scary experience; learning. The Student Union Education Officer is here to offer you confidential advice and information on a wide range of academic issues during your time at University. If you need anything at all relating to your education, whether it be regarding mitigating circumstances, course quality, changing your course, or just for a chat about coursework or exams, come and see your Education Officer. As well as being available to offer advice and information, the Education Officer also offers representation on issues such as academic appeals, complaints, academic infringements, and disciplinary matters. They are also responsible for representing the views of all Glamorgan students, within the University on academic boards and committees, and nationally at various conferences. Working with elected Course Representatives, the Education Officer can also have a strong input into the relationships between students, representatives and lecturers. The Students’ Union is here to support Course Reps in any way it can in order to offer students the best experience possible; but we need your feedback at all times! So if it’s going well, don’t keep quiet; shout it from the rooftops!
It may also be the case that while at University you have a problem relating to your course. The Union is here to help. Depending on the issue, it may be best to contact the Welfare Officer first who will be able to put you on the right track. Otherwise, contact your Education Officer directly.
