► Meet the Exec Team

Meet the Exec Team!
Say hello to this year's Executive team:

Hello peeps, I’m Helen and I’m the El-Presidente of the Union. It’s my second year as President and so I’m pretty clued up on my role, the Union and University.

I do a few interesting things like representation and working with University Directorate and staff, I’m on lots of Uni Committees and I generally like to check out how matters will effect students and fight your cases. As nearly all of the meetings happen in Trefforest, you will catch me in the Trefforest SU more (on top floor), but I can be contacted through supres@glam.ac.uk, and I will be happy to come see you on any of the campuses.

I like a good party and I’m well up for some of the events we have got lined up, it’s going to be a fantastic year, hope to see you around!

My name is Dave Joyce but I am more commonly known as Japer. I started at Glamorgan in 2005 and was elected Vice President of Communication for 2010/11 academic year in the student elections.

I have been heavily active with the Students Union throughout my time at university and this has given the opportunity to make hundreds of close friends. I have represented the University for five years as a member of the Men’s Hockey team
and was honoured to be elected Captain for two years. In 2010, I had the honour of being selected for the Wales Universities squad and travelled to Edinburgh to represent both University and Country in the Home Nations tournament.

From my experiences I would strongly advise every student to embrace student life and to get involved in as many activities, events, sports or societies as possible as this is a great way of meeting lots of new friends. We do offer a vast range of all of the above but we are always looking for more fun ways to engage our students so we like to encourage the development of new groups of students sharing common hobbies and interests so if you want to develop the first Glamorgan Underwater tiddlywinks league then bring us your ideas and we will see what we can do!

Hey guys! My name is Daniel Bowen, or as most of you will know me Dan Bows, and I am your new Student Support officer for this year. After my fantastic experiences here it’s time for me to pass on my vast knowledge and experiences to make your time here awesome!
As your support officer I want to make sure that YOUR views are represented in YOUR union.

It’s YOUR University and it’s important that YOUR issues are heard, to ensure the experiences you have here are the best they can be. With the opening of the new union building just round the corner there is a chance to make this year a fantastic one for all, and with a good sabbatical team in place to support you it’s a chance for an excellent student experience.
Get involved in Glamorgan and let’s make 2010/11 a year to remember.
Stay classy and remember to keep it real!

Enjoy! - Dan Bows!!!

Hi! My name is Stuart Brooks and I am your Student Activities and Development Officer. This will be my 2nd year in this position. Last year I worked hard on developing a platform in which to build on the University of Glamorgan’s sporting performance. Also, looking closely and working with fellow Sabbs to develop the student experience here at Glamorgan. With the new structure in place, the pathway for student involvement will be far more accessible and involving.

My campaign this year is Health and Well Being so please keep an eye out and lets get involved!

This year will be a very exciting year for all, with the new students union opening and a new sabbatical team let’s make 2010-2011 an amazing year!!!!

Thank you,
Brooksy!

Hi there!! My name is James Koash and I’m the Union’s Chair of Student Council. My role is to ensure that students know how to make their voice heard, through democratic procedures such as Student Council. I also sit as part of the Executive Committee, which has day-to-day responsibility for the representation and campaigning elements of the Students’ Union.

We’ve made an extra effort to ensure Cardiff-based students aren’t left out. We are organising a host of exciting events at our Union building at ATRiuM. With many of our students stu
dying at Treforest but living at the Bakery, we are trying to make students aware that they are welcome into any Union building no matter which campus they study at.

Perhaps the biggest change this year is our new Student Council structure. Student Council is responsible for setting the political direction of the Union. The Union has also introduced a number of Standing Committees, with the chair of each committee sitting
on Student Council. There are currently 16 Standing Committees, with each committee representing a particular group of students.

We are currently looking for students to sit on these committees, to raise issues of relevance to students. No matter who you are, you are entitled to make your voice heard.

If you have any problems during your stay at the University of Glamorgan, then feel free to get in touch with myself, any of the other Executive Officers of the Union, or even members of the newly introduced committees. As Union representatives, we’ll be sure to point you in the right direction!
