► Under Pressure?

Under Pressure?

Everyone has mental health – sometimes good, sometimes not so good.  As a student you may be someone who has experienced distressing thoughts and feelings in the past, or you may find that the stress of your new life causes you to feel worried, frightened or confused.

University can be an exciting experience.  But sometimes it can be a difficult time; you may feel homesick, worried about money and pressures of study, or that you are ‘not fitting in’.  These feelings are very common, and usually subside as you begin to settle in to your new life.

Sometimes these feelings can become overwhelming and develop into depression or other types of mental health problems.  If you feel like this it is a good idea to seek help as soon as possible.

The University has a Mental Health Adviser who is there to develop the support provided to students and to promote mental health awareness amongst all University staff and students.

Lynne Fisher is your Mental Health Adviser and she can:

• Provide advice, support and information;
• Help you talk through your difficulties;
• Help in a crisis situation;
• Ensure that you have appropriate admission arrangements, facilities and study support to enable you during your time at the University;
• Co-ordinate a support network between the university and other services available in the community.
• Liaise with halls and departments on your behalf;
• Support you during and after a break from studies or a hospital admission
• Talk to other staff to improve their understanding of how you may be affected and what type of support is required.

To contact the Mental Health Adviser telephone 01443 482080 or make an appointment through reception in Student Services (C Block).

Lynne is based in Trefforest but also provides a service at the Atrium in Cardiff every Wednesday afternoon, and can see people at Glyntaff if required, so please ask for the appointment to be on the campus most suitable for you.
