Hi everyone.…it is nearly time, the date I take office as Glyntaff Officer and one of the new Executive Board Members of the Union is extremely close and thus the pressure, excitement and anticipation is slowly creeping in. Although with the summer here it gives me a chance to relax and get use to being the Glyntaff Office before everyone comes back to Glamorgan in September.
As this is my last blog before I officially take office, I have so much to cover in this blog. The things I will cover in this blog is my vision for next year, an up-date on what I have done over the last month, also I will also explain how you can get two prizes which are up for grabs. Finally I will be concluding this blog with my usual thanks to those who have helped me or need to be recognised.
Okay with the introduction out of the way….As this blog is packed, I will start off where I started last months blog via “Your Choice” on the Glyntaff Facebook group…may I thank everyone who has filled out “Your Choice” so far. Although may I ask everyone who has not taken part yet to take part via contacting me via Facebook or email 08037663@glam.ac.uk or by following this link: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/topic.php?uid=70104570888&topic=13147 and posting your response.
Now with that out of the way allow me to up-date you on what I have done this month, I have had further with James Koash (Cardiff Campus Officer) and I am more confident then ever before that Glyntaff and ATRiuM (Glamorgan’s Cardiff Campus) will be more closer then ever before, as well as, having discussion of closer campus relations between the ATRiuM and Glyntaff I have also been discussing my policies for next year with students via “Your Choice” on Facebook and I have also visiting Glyntaff and taking pictures for the new Glamsu.com/Construction site.
With my engagements over the last month detailed…allow me to set out my rough vision for next year: Over the next year I would like to work with students to address their issues, while creating a coherent and effective student representation program at Glyntaff, while trying to get more people involved in University and Union events, such as, Union Council. I would also like to try to save students money on car parking and gym costs. However I will be spending most of my time of the next year focusing on two main areas, which are, trying to get a bar and gym on Glyntaff and working with students and staff to make sure every student is kept up-to-date on developments, changes and activities happening across the University.
Now down to how you can win some prizes…
There are two prizes up for grabs, with two simple ways to get your hands on these prizes. Now the first prize is a Glamorgan China Mug worth £5.99… to receive this prize all you have to is simply become the 100th member of the Glyntaff Reform Committee on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/group.php?gid=70104570888&ref=ts) and then send me a message confirming that you are the 100th member.
The other prize is slightly harder to
win…
Although the prize is well worth the time and effort. The Prize is Glamorgan Glass Tankard and all you have to do to win this prize is come up with a new logo for the Glyntaff Reform Committee and e-mail the design to 08037663@glam.ac.ukbefore September and one luckily logo will be chosen and thus win the prize.
Okay with the blog nearly over its time to finish this blog in the traditional way of thanking everyone who has helped me over the last month but first allow me to wish the outgoing Board of Trustee’s for the Union all the luck in the future.
May I quickly say thanks to Bob Davies (The Union’s web developer) for his hard work and effort for developing website and may I also thank Bob for the time he put into making the new look Union website.
Finally may I thank Zeke Hanley-Morgan for putting up with my hear-brain ideas over the last month and for being there when I have needed help.
Now with that said and done…allow me to wish everyone good luck in receiving their results over the summer and state that I look forward to seeing you all next year.

Glyntaff Officer’s Blog
11/5/09
Hi everyone, welcome to the Glyntaff Officer’s Blog. Well what can I say to start this blog….expect for its been a fast paced month….what with meetings, events, and exams taking place. This month has left me with so many people to thank, congratulate and wish luck to in the future, and as a result it’s a case of where to begin this blog.
To start…I need your help, with the day I take office (July 1st) fast approaching and the question of “what do students want and how does that match up to my election manifesto?” ringing in my ear, I have set-up a pole on the Glyntaff Reform Committee Facebook Group called ‘Your Choice’ in order to give you the chance to decide what you want dealt with first when I take office….to access ‘Your Choice’ go to:
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=70104570888#/topic.php?uid=70104570888&topic=1314
Okay with that now mentioned…down to what I have been up to this month.
Well to start with I have had meetings with a range of different people, from James Koash (Cardiff Campus Officer) and Donna Mead (Dean of HESAS), to Rhobert Lewis (Associate Dean of HESAS) and Ed Morgan (HESAS). I have also been on a “hard hat” tour of the Upper Glyntaff development with Chris Lee (HESAS), as well as, meeting students at Glyntaff to discuss their issues, complaints and problems.
Unfortunately now for the bad news…I have recently been informed Glyntaff will not be getting a gym for September. However I will be working hard over the next couple of months to try and resolve this matter and thus put a timeline in place, to try and get Glyntaff a gym before the end of the 2009/2010 academic year. Although its not all gloom and doom for Glyntaff there is some good news…Glyntaff will have better car parks with increased security, as well as, more canteen’s, which will sell healthy options. Also it has recently been announced Glyntaff will be getting more social spaces (Common Room’s) and a new set of library and computer room opening times.
Now with that said, the Course Rep Awards took place this month in the Guildford Hall in Cardiff. The night honoured those students who take time out of their studies to represent their fellow students, and as such, I was shocked and extremely proud as when I was awarded the Individual Contribution Award. I would like to say thank you to everyone who attended the awards, for making it a night to remember.
Furthermore I would like to congratulate everyone who won an award.
Now before I wrap this blog up, allow me to say thank you to a few people who made the last month what is was.
First allow me to thank the students I meet at Glyntaff for being honest about their concerns and issues, as it allowed me to understand how hard I need to work over the next year to make Glyntaff better.
Secondly I would like to thank Stuart “Chugga” Jones, for organising a truly unforgettable and amazing night, in the Course Rep Awards 2009.
I would also like to thank the ‘Outgoing Board of Trustee’s of the Union’ for their hard work over the last year…may I wish you all good luck in the future. Photos from the night available to view here: http://www.glamsu.com/gallery/?page=viewsection&referrer=viewalbum&category=24975
Finally….I would like to thank Bob Davies (Union Web Developer), for his continued hard work and for constantly showing how amazing he is by going above and beyond the call of duty to make the Union Website a success. (ed: *blushes)

Glyntaff Officer’s Blog
17/4/09 -
Hi everyone, welcome to the first ever Glyntaff Officer’s Blog. Its been roughly a month since I have been elected, and July 1st (the day I officially take office) is approaching fast. Although anyone who knows me would say I am excited and can’t wait to take office, but I know it’s going to be a big responsibility, especially with the new Union Constitution putting me on the Board of Trustee’s, but I still firmly believe that I can get the ball rolling, if not accomplish everything I put in my manifesto.
This Blog will be was set-up to allow everyone to see what I have done to address their concerns, issues and complaints, as well as, how I have got on as Glyntaff Officer over the last month. I will also being using this Blog to mention any events that are going on inside and outside of Uni Glam. While also saying thank you to certain individuals who deserve recognition.
Okay with my rumblings over with, now down to business… what I have I done since being elected…. Well the simple answer is quite a bit, to be honest more than I anticipated I would do.
I have been involved in meetings with staff at the Union, as well as, other elected officers… mainly the Cardiff Campus (Atrium) Officer James Koash and the new Union President Helen Wakeford to discuss the future of Leek (The Uni’s student Newspaper), I also have had meetings with some students with regards to Glyntaff’s developent and the problems that this is causing students.
Furthermore I have had a semi-formal meeting with Chris Lee (HESAS), to discuss the Glyntaff move and to discuss how the Union and University will work together to give talks during Fresher’s week about what the University and the Union can offer students…..
Before I say thank you to everyone who has helped over the last month… I would like to inform you all that there is an upcoming 12.5 mile sponsored run for the National Autistic Society (NAS). More information about the run can be found at:
http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/group.php?gid=83251055812&ref=ts
Okay with that said… There is one last thing to do before I rap this Blog up. May I say thank you to Bob Davies, The Union’s web developer for the amount of time, effort and hard work over last month he has put in to developing this new Glyntaff site and for putting up with my long winded e-mails.
If you want an event mentioned or you feel someone should be recognised for their actions or achievements or if you want to inform me of any issues, problems, etc please feel free to swing by my office at Glyntaff or contact me via 08037663@glam.ac.uk or by messaging on Facebook.
Finally….Good luck everyone with your exams, etc.
