What's happening at the ATRiuM.. James will let you know!

15th July 2009

Hello there everyone! Just writing to keep ATRiuM students updated, with regards to the new
Union building and my plans for the year ahead as the Union's Cardiff Campus Officer.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q) When is the bar due to open?

A) The building has almost been completed, and fit out will begin shortly. It will be ready in
time for Fresher's Week.

--

Q) I've heard that the bar will only open til around 11pm. Is that true?

A) No, it's open untill 11.30pm, so it's a great place for a night out or a starting point for
students on their nights out in the city centre. Something to note is that we can apply for a
late-night license for special events.

--

Q) I have a problem that I feel the Union may be able to help me with. Which support staff would I be able to speak to?

A) You can speak to myself... as the Cardiff Campus Officer, my job is to provide support and
representation to ATRiuM students. If you can't find me on campus, you can send me an e-mail
(08018103@glam.ac.uk). We also have a Campus Development Officer, Matt Higgins
(suvpcd@glam.ac.uk) a Student Activities Officer, Stuart Brooks (suactdev@glam.ac.uk) and a
Student Support officer, Kathryn Powell (suvpss@glam.ac.uk) who are able to help you as well.

--

Q) My band want to be able to play at the new venue. Are we able to?

A) We are looking into the possibility of organising live music nights. If you send us a demo
disc, we can contact you if we are interested. The address to write to is:

Jason Crimmins
Entertainment Office (B15)
University of Glamorgan
Treforest
Rhondda Cynon Taff
CF37 1UF

--

Q) I hear that you will be working closer with Tequilla Radio in the year ahead. How so?

A) Tequilla Radio has an arrangement with the Union to have the station broadcast in the
building during daytime hours. They will also be covering Union events, starting with an
outside broadcast from the Fresher's Fayre in Treforest.

--

Q) What is the date for the Fresher's Fayre in Treforest? And will there be one for the
ATRiuM?

A) It's the 25th September and we will have a shuttle bus transportation to the Treforest
Campus, so there's no reason not to come along! We have also organised a Union
induction event at the ATRiuM, which is taking place on the 29th September.

THE YEAR AHEAD

My primary campaign will be to raise awareness of the Union down at the ATRiuM, by helping to
promote the services we provide. I also want to help strengthen the student voice down at the
ATRiuM and trying to get course reps/SVRs more involved in Union politics.

I will be working closely with the Campus Development Officer, in order to ensure that the
Union gives consideration to ATRiuM students in all of its decisions. As part of the executive
board, I also aim to increase channels of communication with staff and students.

One of my main priorities is ensuring that ATRiuM students have all the services they need, on
campus. I will be working with the University of Glamorgan Health Centre in order to try and
boost the health services on the ATRiuM campus.

Any questions or suggestions then feel free to contact me.
