Campus Development Plans for Academic year 2009 / 2010

1. Communication across the three campuses

The communication over the three different campuses appears to have disappeared with students feeling that there own campus is their university for example, students at the Atrium in Cardiff feel that they are not involved with events and societies with the main Trefforest campus.

Ideas put forward:

  • Informing all students about events across the different campuses via different forms of advertisement for example for new students arriving at Glamorgan, in there welcome pack have the year planner for both Treforest and Atrium  students union and providing shuttle buses to make it accessible for students to attend different events over the different campuses
  • Making the Leek newspaper a success by having sections on what developments are taking place over the three different campuses.

2. Advertisement

Advertisement and promoting, during the past few years Glamorgan has been using the what’s on board and in the union to advertise upcoming events. With all the development going on all over the university, it is vital that the students are aware of all the events that are going on, in and around the campuses.
3.Charity work – Improving the links with local charities and giving to the local community will be a huge boost for both the university and the local community.

Ideas put forward:

  • A clothes recycling day – which will be done once a month by the exec committee, where we will walk round all the campuses and ask students to donate any clothes there do not use and will then be sent to local charities
  • Raising funds for charity as a current member of staff is climbing the highest mountain in North Africa
  • Continue promoting the charities that the university are involved with (BFG big fund raising group and GGB Glamorgan gives back). Also look for more student involvement with these charities.
  • Having charity work on a local, national and international level across the all campuses to give back to the community and also raise awareness about the charities that the university are involved with.

4. Student Representative

Student representative is a key area to the university in terms promoting events, societies and activities and also academic issues

5. Leek newspaper

Ideas for the campuses (Trefforest, Glyntaff, Atrium)

Treforest:

  • Have the leek newspaper distributed at the main entrance of the students union
  • Promoting SVR and course representatives
  • For fresher’s keeping them informed with all events across the campuses by having the year planner for both Treforest’s
  • Working with the entertainment team in promoting and advertising events in the union

  • Have the leek newspaper distributed at the main entrance of the Glyntaff building
  • Look into ways to get more student representation, making them more involved with the Glyntaff Site
  • Will look into increasing the opening hours of the Glyntaff site
  • Look for ways that the facilities on the Glyntaff campus can be increased to help benefit students for there studies.
  • Will put shuttle buses on for students to be able to get to and from the campuses safely
  • Liaising with the student activities officer to ensure that there is activities on the Glyntaff site.

Atrium:

  • Have the leek newspaper distributed at the main entrance of the main entrance of the new union bar, with the leek newspaper being put together in the Atrium and having a balance of information from all three campuses
  • Leek will include news form all three campuses, sport, union news and developments, competitions, adverts important university information, course rep and SVR news, local news in the surrounding areas, current music and film reviews
