Employers expect you have more than a degree; they want to see proof of work experience and skill development relevant to your chosen career. It’s a sad fact that many new graduates fail to secure interviews simply because they haven’t taken the time to build up practical experience and gain vocational skills.
The University’s Careers Service hosts projects that deal directly with finding students and graduates relevant work experience:
GO Wales Work Tasters
Shown support by newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky, radio deejay Trevor Nelson, and the ultimate employer Sir Alan Sugar, Tasters are bespoke voluntary opportunities, designed to help you get an idea of a particular business sector or industry. These are available throughout Wales and are tailored to fit around your studies. Tasters allow you to:

GO Wales Work Placements
These paid, full-time opportunities last between six and ten weeks. You will work within a small- or medium-sized local company, usually on a project, with the whole experience being overseen by a Placement Organiser based within the University’s Careers Service.
Examples of recent Placements include writing a marketing plan, developing a database or website, introducing new office systems, and testing new products before they launch.
