The Constitution

The Students' Union, while part of the University, is an autonomous organisation with its own rules and regulations. Employment Service

The Student Union employs students to work as Bar and Catering Assistants, Couriers, Enrolment Administrators, Drivers, Reception Staff, and Entertainment Staff. We also run an employment service for various University Departments; these positions include everything from Student Shelvers, Couriers to conduct University Campus tours for the Marketing Department to Stewards in the Recreation Centre. Careers

Employers expect you have more than a degree; they want to see proof of work experience and skill development relevant to your chosen career. It’s a sad fact that many new graduates fail to secure interviews simply because they haven’t taken the time to build up practical experience and gain vocational skills. Under Pressure?

Everyone has mental health – sometimes good, sometimes not so good.  As a student you may be someone who has experienced distressing thoughts and feelings in the past, or you may find that the stress of your new life causes you to feel worried, frightened or confused. University can be an exciting experience.  But sometimes it can be a difficult time; you may feel homesick, worried about money and pressures of study, or that you are ‘not fitting in’.  Read more...



Counselling

Starting university, making new friends, dealing with relationships back home. Sometimes people experience difficulties when their circumstances change, such as when you are settling into university life. These difficulties can present themselves as unexplained changes in mood, such as feeling low, anxious, stressed, feeling homesick, sad, lonely or isolated. The International Student Support Service

Advice Shops

In the early weeks you may have questions such as how to work out a timetable or find your way around the campus and then, as your course progresses, you may find you have queries about your study patterns, time management and so on. Each of the faculty advice shops will also give guidance about mitigating circumstances process operating within your Faculty, so if you miss a coursework deadline, or are struggling with something that is affecting your ability to study, pop in and have a chat with an adviser.
