Hello everyone, my name is Ray and I’m asking you to give your support and come out and vote for me!
About me
At the moment I am a current trustee of the
Students’ Union and I currently hold the position
of your Union Secretary. I am originally from Ireland and moved to
Wales four years ago. While a student here I achieved a BA in Humanities
Why I Feel I would be best for the job.
The main thing I found when starting my job as trustee was how long it takes to adjust to the job and get to know the day to day workings of the Union. I have already done many courses with NUS so therefore feel I will be starting with the skills needed for being your president. As many of the current president’s meetings clashed with each other this year, I was then delegated to attend them. Due to this I feel I have valuable experience, as I have already supported the presidential job with my current role.
What I hope to achieve as president
One of the main problems with some of the courses is that they must stay and work in the university or in surrounding industries as part of there course. The main two of these being Chiropractic and Nursing, these do not receive any extra funding from there local authorities. If I am elected President, I intend to lobby the University to free up extra money for these students, which would be of great benefit to them financially.
Also there are plans for the Union to be revamped next year. This may mean that this time next year there would be no Students’ Union with Night Club facilities, food counters, etc. If elected President, I intend to do everything within my power to make sure that the University do not close down the entire Union building at once and that there will be facilities for Students to socialise at night and off course to take advantage of the many services the Union offers!
I also intend to set up an Events Committee that works and covers the broad demographics of students which we have here in Glamorgan. This committee will decide on what theme nights are on and will have a part in organising the nights out in the union.
And finally I intend to get Glamorgan Students Union as involved as possible in all NUS events and campaigns. This I feel would be of great benefit to us as a union as they have better facilities and experience with running campaigns and standing up for students’ rights!
