your union

From the day you enrol at Glamorgan University you automatically become a member of the Students' Union. Being a member gives you the chance to get involved in things you wouldn't normally do, whether it's being a course rep or marching outside parliament , climbing or snowboarding.

What is a Students' Union?

The Students' Union is an organisation run by students for students. It's primary function is to offer support and representation to students.

Glamorgan Union is also a member of NUS (National Union of Students.) We pay affiliation fees each year, to ensure top quality training, advice and support. It also means you can receive the benefits of the NUS Extra card. NUS have the ability to campaign on a national level on issues that are important to all students as well as specific groups of students.

What does being a member actually mean?

The Union provides a range of services and activities for every student enrolled on campus. These include: Representation on University Committees, Confidential Welfare Advice, Shuttle Services, Sports, Societies and Entertainments.

One responsibility you have once you become a member of Glamorgan Student's Union, is to ensure control of the Union remains in the hands of students. There are a series of structures in place to maintain this control.

AGM

The Annual General Meeting is held once a year in the first term. All students are welcome to come along, vote on important decisions, ask questions and actively shape the way your Union will run for the forthcoming year. This is your chance to have a direct input into the Union's decision making without having to be elected.

Union Council

This council is made up of students from across all the faculties, sports teams & clubs and societies, it also includes all elected officers. It meets at least four times a year to make decisions about how the Union is run.

Trustees

These Trustees are elected by a cross campus ballot every year. They are there to control the day to day activities of the Union and are accountable to Union Council.
