NUS is one of the largest student organisations in the world and represents the interests of around five million students in Further and Higher Education throughout the United Kingdom. NUS provides research, representation, training and expert advice for individual students and students' unions. They deal with over 15,000 welfare enquiries each year and train over 3,000 students' union officers.

Within the National Union of Students there are six full time officers paid to campaign for students on a national level, whether it is for free prescriptions, anti fees or better accommodation standards.

NUS Wales

As well as NUS, here in Wales we have support and representation from NUS Wales, who have over the years campaigned successfully for things such as free prescriptions, the assembly learning grant, 100% exemption from Council Tax and delayed top-up fees.

NUS Wales is the largest democratic organisation in Wales, representing 250,000 students in both Further and Higher Education sectors. It is an autonomous 'special region' of NUS UK, meaning that NUS Wales sets its own policy, elects its own executive and campaigns separately on issues that affect students studying in Wales.

The Executive in Wales comprises of three full time officers paid to carry out the daily work of NUS Wales, campaigning and representing Welsh students on many committees.
