The Union supports a large number of student societies, providing interest and hobby opportunities for hundreds of students, organising dances, concerts, marches, dinners, demonstrations, balls, courses, conferences, workshops and outings. There are currently a wide variety to chose from, but if nothing tickles your fancy, why not start one of your own?

All societies are run by students for students. Each one has a minimum of 10 members, with an elected committee of Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. The Students' Union, via the Societies Committee has primary control of all societies and provides introductory courses specialising in the key roles of a society, such as chair, secretary and treasurer. These sessions highlight the do's and don'ts of running a successful society. The Union also supports societies by providing grant aid and administrative help. More importantly, it provides willing and experienced staff to help with any of the problems, big or small, that inevitably occur.

If you would like to join a Union society, come along to the Student Activities Office or go to one of the advertised society meetings. You'll need your Union card, a photograph and a few pounds for the joining fee. If there isn't currently a society that interests you, pop along to the Student Activities Office and they'll help you set up a society of your own. Providing that you fulfil certain constitutional requirements, once you have ten members, you could be dancing, debating or divining in no time.
