Course Rep of the Year 2008 – Helen Wakeford
But only one person can win the Course Rep of the Year award! Here’s just a sample of what some of the nominations from students said about the Rep of the Year:
“A real help this year especially because it’s been quite a stressful year”
“Very helpful to everyone” and “notified us of work we needed to do, and when deadlines had been extended”
“Has worked very hard this year to communicate for and between lecturers and students” and “has organised group events outside the course such as nights out”
“Managed to get group extensions when needed” and “organised more lectures providing help with essays”
“Made a group on Facebook as she knows more students check that regularly”
“Always emails back promptly” and “when the lecturer has emailed her help and information she has also forwarded them on to the rest of us”
“Every student has benefited from her constant contact”
“She has worked hard this year for the whole course and helped out with any issues or concerns”.
By completing the Course Reps mini-module this Course Rep was able to articulate the skills and competences she has learnt and developed throughout the year, and, fingers crossed, gain 5 academic credits for her work.

Course Rep of the Year 2007 – JAMAL TEER
Jamal Teer, 3rd year Management & Business Course Rep won the 'Course Rep of the Year' award after showing committment, passion and enthusiasm for the role. Jamal not only contributed many hours of his time to University meetings, but also attended a conference entitled 'The Extent and Effectiveness of Student Representation Structures at Higher Education Institutions across Wales'. Jamal also completed the Course Reps mini-module where he was able to articulate the skills and competences he developed through the year.
Jamal's Scheme Leader said: "In addition to committing himself to his final year of studies, Jamal has been proactive in all aspects of being a student representative. He has attended all Scheme Boards and has also been active on behalf of his fellow students outside these. He is never afraid to speak his mind and is very tenacious in ensuring he gets a response to his queries. However he does all this with a smile on his face and I believe it is him overall demeanor that is his main asset when dealing with people, be they fellow students or staff".
