Standing Committees

What committees are available to join or contact for help?

There are currently 16 different Standing Committees, each with their own website.

You can become a member of a committee and voice your opinion through committee meetings. Or you could become chair of the committee and be the person responsible for taking forward the committee’s views directly to Student Council.


• Treforest Campus Committee
(Chair: John Fisher) (members: 3 vacancies)
The committee will represent students on the Treforest campus, in relation to non-academic service provision.




• Glyntaff Campus Committee
(Chair: Kenneth Thornton) (members: Richy Peckham, 2 vacancy)
The committee will represent students on the Glyntaff campus, in relation to non-academic service provision.




• ATRiuM Campus Committee
(Chair: Alex Tilsley) (members: 3 vacancies)
The committee will represent students on the ATRiuM campus, in relation to non-academic service provision.




• Postgraduate Students’ Committee
(chair: Vacant) (research members: 2 Vacancies) (taught members: 2 vacancies) This committee will represent all students of the University, who are studying at postgraduate level.




• Mature Students’ Committee
(chair: Vacancy) (full time members: 2 vacancies) (part time members: 2 vacancies)
This committee will represent all students of the University, who are over 26 years old.




• Part Time Students’ Committee
(chair: 1 vacancy) (daytime members: 2 vacancies) (evening, weekend or distance learning members: 2 vacancies)
This committee will represent all students of the University who are studying on a part time basis.




• International Students’ Committee
(chair: Maarten Heinsius) (members: Marius Eliassen & 6 Vacancies)
This committee will represent all students of the University who are not UK nationals.




• Housing Committee
(chair: Vacancy) (members: 4 vacancies [Treforest Halls, Cardiff Halls, Tref private sector, Cardiff private sector] )
This committee will represent all students of the University living in Halls of Accomodation or private sector accommodation.




• Student with Disabilities Committee
(chair: Wendy Morris) (members:  Gary Cackett & Ian Prosser + 1 vacancy)
This committee will represent all students of the University with disabilities.




• Black Students’ Committee
(chair: Lillies McGovern) (members: 2 vacancy)
This committee will represent all black students of the University.




• LGBT Students’ Committee
(chair: Zach Paulin) (members: Rei Griffiths (Trans) 1 x Women’s, Isaac Griffiths (Open), Jo Relton (Bisexual) This committee will represent all students who define themselves as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.




• Womens’ Committee
(chair: Vacancy) (members: 3 vacancies)
This committee will represent all female students of the University, in relation to issues that only affect female students.




• Cultural Societies Committee
(chair: Vacancy) (members: 3 vacancies)
This committee will represent all students that are members of Union societies.




• Sports Committee
(chair: Ed Smart) (members: Chris Kent + 1 vacancies [sports team rep, sports club rep] )
This committee will represent all students who are members of sports teams or clubs.




• Union Supported Activities Committee
(chair: Alex Osborne) (members: 2 vacancies [rep for The A470s, rep for the Debating Society] ) This committee will represent all students who are members of Union Supported Activities.




• Welsh Language Students’ Committee
(chair: 1 vacancy) (members: 3 vacancies)
This committee will represent all welsh speaking students at the University.
